i had a long telephone conversation with alain
today [one of the advantages of living in the same
telephone local area code...] and i will expound on
his mail.

while all the team have tried to make moving to carbon as painless
as possible there will be oversights, glitches, and general
'problems'. most of these have been dealt with by code
samples on the cd, by articles on the web site

more coming, keep your browser pointing at:

as well as alain's recent post here. in many cases the answers
that people seek will be covered in these. while some folks
will prefer to post and wait rather than RTFM, some info
may be buried, some may be forgotten [hey, i just thought
we haven't talked at all about 'long file names'... and
another thing on my todo list...].

thus it is important to keep posting questions.

some of you may have outdated versions of fb, or may be trying
the demo. in this case you should remember that you don't qualify
for 'official' tech support. i only know of one case on this
list when someone was ostracised because of 'non-official'
status, but remember that any information that people give
here is volunteered and not a due.

there is another thing that people carbonising existing apps
can do, this will be interesting and profitable for everyone:
document your work. what did you do, what went smoothly, where
did you fall down, where did you find the docs were not clear,
or a bit brief? even if the carbonisation process went smoothly
that's interesting and should be shared.
if you have problems talk about them, that's the only way that
we can see that we need to improve docs and resources.

this may sound a bit like lecturing, i'll admit that it is. it
is also destined to help us all, and improve things for all.
so as alain said:
'don't stop posting'.

:-j

ps. while i'm in lecturing mode. if you encounter problems
carbonising try to note what version of carbonlib you have,
whether you were working in classic or in x. shucks, rp posted
an list of things like that to mention, i'll try and find it
and post a revised debugging faq.

all the best to all.
