Mild correction to your tip(s): 
The button to suppress RAM check at startup
appears iffi one depresses 

          Command *and* Option keys

while opening the Memory control pannel.

This feature is also in OS8.6. (OS8.1 anyone?)

Absent in OS7.5.3.

Further question:  Does it do what it claims to do??
Lets have some "with and without" statistics.
First tests on my G3 266 are disappointing;
more on this later.

There's a lot of programming time at stake 
community-wide.
