>Looking into it. Might ebay a supported modem ($25 vs $100 for the >Bellsouth one), and FastAccess.com some DSL. Bah - I just switched from DSL to cable, you can have my old DSL modem for the shipping if your provider doesn't include one. Strongly suggest a router too; I have a cheap Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL 8-port router. Less critical with cable, invaluable just to keep DSL "live" without using painful poorly-done Mac DSL software, at least the way SBC did it. Good for security too, built-in firewall. >I am paying right now, 26.95 for dialup, "The Works" (extra boxs, >space, etc) and also a 29.95 domain hosting fee for Artly >There.com...adding DSL will be a lotta lotta ($45 more after the >special runs out) Cable modem runs me $45/mo, DSL was $49 and service stunk. Still pay AOL $20/mo just to keep this address, haven't used their software in years. <sigh> Get my mail via Emailer (1.0...) through the cable modem. >Wondering what is best. Problem is, my current email is tied to my >dialup. Cable unless you're in a densely-populated area where there are a ton of people on the same cable run, or a rural area where the cable run is extremely long. In those cases DSL might be faster, even without going to the higher speed (& cost) variations of DSL - if it's available. DSL is second choice to me, though speed-wise here it's a tie; I just got fed up with SBC's billing department. Email address may or may not be accessible from DSL/cable, but you'll still have to pay for it separately unless you get the high-speed access from the same company. Bill
