Yes. "delete" works on the character to the left, 'forward delete' 
(box with right side looking like ">" and an "X" inside) deletes the 
character to the right. Both have value. Using the 'forward delete' 
can save you clicking or using the arrow keys in many cases. I 
strongly encourage programmers out there to endeavor to support it as 
much as possible.

I was unable to get it to work in OS 9 (Classic) but it worked fine 
without extra code in OS X.
