Hi All, A young friend hastily reinitialized his ATA 17Go hard disk on his G4 PB 500 after a crash. On that disk there are (hopefully) still some precious ASCII files -- his own source code in particular not to mention part of his thesis. What program should he use to locate and rescue the data? If it were the old days with SCSI and OS 7.5x the answer could have been Noton Disk doctor 3.2.1 or HDT 1.x -- tools that saved me dozens of times over the years. What is the modern answer? I'll need it sometime myself, probably soon! Incidentally, where does one find the system calls to read an ATA disk sector by sector via FB^3? In principle one should be able to whip up an ad hoc rescue application in a day! Cheers Laurent S.
