Anyone who is using OS X (it's OSX only) and who doesn't mind an -alternative temporary-, certainly not a replacement editor, can download and try my "Editor X", a temporary OS X editor I provided to the beta team a while back. At this point, I am not sure if it is any aid, and hopefully the jewel of the denial will show itself soon enough anyway. I don't know what that pun means, I just wanted to make one. :) I would think : If you don't have the carbon compiler though, there's not much use using it (other than if you are having Panther launch problems) because Classic will still be firing up anyway, so why not use the official editor. I still do. :) 3 Caveats and Requirements plus one more for the road: 1. Install is to place it alongside your regular FB Editor. Wise people will read the docs. 2. Contact Robert Covington (that's me) , for any questions. See Number 3. 3. No Exceptions: Staz Software is not affiliated with this at all, it was an independent production. So, don't bug them about it At All. 4. IMPORTANT: If you download this application, don't whine at me about what it is missing! It is built on Apples MLTE engine (Multi-lingual Text Engine), and all those luxury line-ers and indento-trons of what you are used to are a function of a custom text and drawing engine, not one that runs the whole file/editing show and is as bug filled and slow as MLTE can be. It's a temporary hack for those who can stand it (and that's not too many that I can tell), and it just runs projects (no adding of files however) or files (you can at least make those). Mostly, it's a file / project runner. Bugeats: ** There's a bug in this version where Check Toolboxes pref is missed for a file run. Works for a project. ** There may be a bug in this version where your headers are marked as modified just by opening them from the Project Mangler, so don't go opening them if you don't need to. I will be doing no more work on this though, so don't worry about problems with it. :) They are there to stay. :) But if someone wanted to make an indenter, I can supply a failed prototype. The problem is that doing such and replacing the text in MLTE seems to promote later crashes. Thus I've left it all out. Editor X will never ever be as easy and fast and whatever as the real editor, so don't run it expecting it to be so, and to look the same and offer the same function and luxury. It's a different user experience. Just run it if you have a carbon compiler and want a simple carbon editor. Otherwise, wait for the real thing. If using a foreign system, you may need to change the STR# resources to your compiler paths. < http://www.artlythere.com/macsoft/editorx.hqx > (423K) rc
