That's an idea.

I used to wonder which direction was port and which direction was 
starboard until I realized that "port" and "tedd" had the same number 
of letters. Considering that I don't like being on open water and 
would rather be "left" behind -- I figured that port was left.

I know, I know, "port" and "left" have the same number of letters 
too, but I like my story better.
