I would say the time spent is absolutely and definitively NOT useless!

FBtoC, by harnessing the same back-end as Xcode for compiling, has made
tremendous leaps in long term compatibility.

There are valid reasons why we use FB, and fair reasons why some prefer
Cocoa, but either way, we should stick to the one we prefer. When it comes
to technology, whatever is predicted for next year is not relevant until you
get to next year. Apple, like many others, often changes their view, their
position, and their stance. On some occasions, their views change with no
apparent reasoning, followed by a U-turn, so everything should be treated as
fluidic until you reach the situation in question.

Just because a person uses Cocoa does not imply they are any more or less
future-proof than the next person. Cocoa developers also have to amend their
code.

As a wise man once said, "The only way to reliably predict the future is to
invent it".
