Hi all,
My digest archive of this FutureBasic
list for July 2009 is now posted at:
http://topo.math.u-psud.fr/~slc/fb/
It is a plump gzip'ed file of about 495Ko, or about
1.1 Mo when decompressed. That sounds like some sort
of traffic record for FB. It certainly marks a peak of
list activity for the presant 'FBtoC' era. On the
other hand, without the included graphics the volume
is about 195 Ko compressed, which is still well short
of equivalent traffic peaks over 300Ko/mo of the FB list in
the period 1996--1999.
There is a second http site for the
digests
http://lcs98.free.fr/fb/
that is less complete but is designed for quick
html downloading.
If your expander hassles you, just use
unix to decompress -- or, under classic, use
MacGzip, which is there too.
These ASCII digests are intended both for
human eyes and for multifile 'grep' search in a
powerful text editor.

PS2. On included graphics.
Please do not conclude from my occasionally
cavalier treatment of graphics inclusions that I
despise them. I firmly believe that a picture is worth
1000 words. But when it costs something like 10 000
words worth of file space I do look for better
formatting and compression. That sometimes reduces the
quality of image.
But not always:- for example, Ken discovered a
table of toll-free data type bridges in Apple documentation
that is worth pinning to your monitor; and he delivered
it as a couple of somewhat hazy PNG files of 102 Ko and
187Ko. In the archives it has become one 12Ko 'djvu'
format file of superior quality -- albeit in just black
& white. For up-to-date viewers for 'djvu' files see
http://djvu.org/, and for a classic Mac viewer see
http://topo.math.u-psud.fr/~slc/djvu/). If you are a
stalwart of PDF try
"/FBdigests2009/toll-free_bridged_types.pdf"
a temporary PDF posting. The original source material
that Ken (and I) used is the big PDF file
