>Tedds discovery is also what they discovered when they worked out the >file format for DXF files in 804 AD. 804AD!!! Boy, am I getting hammered! I know, I know... no one means anything by it. And, I take it as a joke. No harm done. But, the discovery I made was very significant to me. I worked for several hours trying to reverse engineer a data communication of days of the month. It seemed simple enough at first. The first day of the month I found was 01 and the second day was 02. So I figured that I had this made and didn't check day 3. I just went to day 5 and found it to be 10??? Hey, wait a minute! Ten!??? What the heck is going on here? Then nothing seemed to fit. Eventually, I figured out how and why they did it. I thought it was clever. Now, everyone has shown this type of bit swilling in BINARY (base 2) or DEC (base 10). Not that it matters much, but I prefer HEX (base 16). By using HEX numbers, I can force more range into a four character string than using DEC. That was really my point in relaying my discovery to this group. While that should not be a surprise to me, it was. And, now you guys make fun of little old me for seeing something that everyone has known since 804 AD! Oh, poor me.... Okay, all you smart FBer's, has anyone ever used base 36 for anything? If so, what? :-) tedd ___________________________________________________________________ <mailto:tedd@...> http://sperling.com/
