After giving Apples new systems a quick once over, I noticed that the new
G3's don't seem to have a serial port (I don't know if the imacs have a
serial or printer port either).

However, there are a lot of devices out there that connect to the serial
port (probably more than Apple thinks anyway). Without a serial port on the
new Macs, you can forget using any of the serial stuff.

I know there are USB to Serial adaptors but the current software has two
settings, Modem Port, Printer Port. Don't know if one of those devices can
fool applications into talking to the USB-Serial or not.

But if not (here's a Mars question), would be possible to write a driver
that would act as a "fake" serial driver and then route it to the USB
serial or something along those lines?
