Mike,
I agree with your comments until we come to Adam and the skins.
I do not think anyone was born again, or that they received new life in
their spirit, until after Christ was raised from the dead. The animal skins
indicated blood being spilled which covered his sin, yet the animal skins
did not give him life in his spirit.
Old Testament saints had their sins forgiven because of atonement but they
were unregenerated in spirit (or heart).
