I too am on that side of the fence, but am trying to find biblical reasoning
above the Old Testament verse about marking and cutting.
I believe in being separated from the world and am kind of leaning that way.
But it leaves a vast area of interpretation

Like Dale, I have not done an extensive study, but personally I associate
the piercing and tatoos with the idol worship in the Old Testament. To me
it is a reminder of the Baal worship of the people of the OT. The scripture
talks about the idol worshippers cutting and marking their body.
