Jerry,
In order to be 'born again' we must believe that we are sinners in
need of a Savior and that Jesus Christ is the only Savior who gave
himself for us by suffering and dying on the Cross and then secured the
victory by His resurrection on the third day. I believe this is the
most basic understanding a person must have to be 'born again' under
ordinary circumstances. This is essentially the understanding that the
thief on the Cross had.
He was recognized he was a sinner -- Luke 23:41 41 "And we
indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds
He knew Jesus was righteous and was going to die ----- Luke
23:41 but this Man has done nothing wrong."
He knew that death would not hold Jesus (resurrection) --- Luke
23:42 42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into
Your kingdom."
Peace,
Steve
