Thanks Moe, I have been saying that Acts 20 must be taken in light of the rest of scripture, and the fact that Paul is talking about giving to help the weak--a specific and precise clarifier. Nevertheless, all of the passages must be taken into consideration to properly interpret what God thinks about supporting elders who work hard at teaching and preaching, as well as Paul's right that he decided to personally put aside as to not be disqualified, as he says, "Do not Barnabas and I not have the right to refrain from working?" 1 Cor. 9:6. Who gave Paul this right to refrain from working? I say God did. The point is that Acts 20 is not the definitive verse on this issue, so why is it being held up as the one definitive verse on this issue? The church did have an obligation to support your friend if he worked as hard at preaching and teaching as you say. The scriptures teach it, though I do not support the mandatory tithe teaching. My point on the collecting on Sunday was that it was A) commanded, and B) was for many weeks, and C) was on every Sunday. That is all I meant by that. Blessings in Christ, K Kinchen bridgewaybible.com
