Hi Kerry
The Doctor's view (and I am very draw to it) was that Eph.5:18 was in
effect
normal Christian experience. He placed great emphasis on the surrounding
context with regards the relational commandments e.g. "Husbands love
your
wives". He saw this filling of the Spirit as something as long as the
believer was obeying the various commandments as ongoing. He did
however see
this teaching of Paul as completely different from the verses in Acts
where
we are told "and all of them were filled with the Holt Spirit" Acts 2:4;
Acts 4:8 "Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit" etc etc. Reformed folk
have a habit of turning to the Acts texts as proof of what Paul says in
Eph.5:18. The Doctor saw the fillings in Acts as something quite
different
from that recorded in Eph.5:18.
Personally I think he is right

Subject: [soundofgrace] Ephesians 5:18 Filled with The Spirit
Everyone,
I have been working through Ephesians in verse to verse preaching,
and have arrived at Ephesians 5:18 in some pre-sermon prep study.
In a nutshell, what does Ephesians 5:18 mean?
I am interested in hearing any view you have or know of.
At this point, I have no concrete view on it.
Thanks for any insights.
Blessings in Christ,
Kerry
