I know a church that had $35,000 saved, so they took it and passed it out on
Sunday, after a sermon on the 10 talents, giving $10 to each adult, and $5
to each child, asking everyone to take care of it for the Master for 40 days
(and noting that care should only include legal and morale methods).
At the end of 40 days, they had a service where they were to return the
funds with profits to the Master.
The collection was over $220,000.00
This particular church started a Christian adoption agency with it, but they
had a great model that could have been used again if done in the right way,
and the right time-span.
I'm currently challenging my own church to try this to complete an otherwise
successful campaign. Surprise costs have cropped up, the flock has already
given faithfully, but now they need another $150,000 to avoid significant
cuts. This should be easy to accomplish, and it also serves to be a
concrete lesson for the flock, that what they have is God's and they are
only stewards of it. Plus it gives the pastor endless lesson analogies, and
helps people see God work. The faith inspiring stories that come from such
an experience are amazing.
I doubt it could be the sole method used to fund an entire building, but you
never know...
Steve

What are perspectives on borrowing money to build a new church?
Also, can anyone give input on the best way to raise funds to pay for a new
building? Some churches have used Rick Warren's self-guided packet. Other
churches have hired people like Injoy(John Maxwell) to do a Capital Gifts
Campaign.
Some churches have done it themselves. What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Johnny
