Carlo, I was an elder in a PCA once. I heard it used as represented cleansing like a shower or a rinsing away. A lot of it comes from the Didache. Just draw an invisible line from Kansas, down to Texas, over to Northern Florida, and up to North Carolina, and I'll go to any baptism in there if they have barbecue. To me the mode of barbecue itself is what is important. Some people say, pouring is just as good. But the water baptism from my understanding is not to represent the pouring of the Holy Spirit, say, but the death, burial, and resurrection, is that important to the symbol of baptism that it is suppose to represent.
