Tonight, as I was reading and reflecting on various Bible passages I came across a familar passage from I Tim. This passage has been used in various debates between Calvinists and Arminians. In 1 Tim 2:4 we are told that God desires all men to be saved. Now for some of you this is old news. But I am new to the Doctrines of Grace and I still struggled with passages like this from time to time. I am aware that some render the word "all" to be mean all kinds of people, nations---etc. But on the surface (w/o consulting my Greek Bible and tools), this exp doesn't seem to hold water. I believe it is Piper who has suggested when dealing with passages such as these to remember God's broad view and his narrow view. Can it be said--That God does desire all men to be saved in the broad sense, but in the narrow sense because all men are sinners, he has only elected some for salvation. Can someone offer me some insights? Thanks Jeff Jeff
