Hi Simon, I think the scriptures call us to be far more patriotic for the kingdom of god than for our individual nations. Thus patiriotism for our nation should never condone evil done by our nation. Yet God continues to exercise sovereign control over nations, and he raises them up and brings them down. I'm not patronizing you with the obvious. I know you know these foundational things. I'm only setting up my answer to your question, as follows: I think that God is using our far-from-perfect nation to judge a clear and positive evil in Saddam Hussein. And I pray that it will be done swiftly, with minimal casualties, and with direct guidance and wisdom given to our leaders from God. I would find it very difficult to be neutral regarding Saddam, though that leaves open the obvious question, "Then why don't you trot your mighty army around the world, cleaning up all the other evil leaders, America?" America can only answer, "It's not in the Providence of God."
