Seems to me that the use of boxes helps remove pressure on unbelievers who
meet with us. (And we certainly do not want to give them the impression they
are expected to pay for hearing the gospel).

 It also removes any temptation to observe what others put in or make a
display of our own giving.

As to obtaining boxes, any carpenter could make them very cheaply.
