I am trying to make some sense out of the words we use and how we use them. It is true that on many occasions words can lose their meaning but at the same time they are all we got and we ought to attempt to use them as effectively as we can. As I see it Baptist and Reformed are not or should never have been seen as mutually exclusive. Of course I am thinking of the likes of Carey and Spurgeon (though someone once said to me that Spurgeon was Calvinistic and not Reformed and he did not tell me just what he meant by that!) In fact I was judging by the tone of what was written and the photos of the worshippers! That lead me to wonder as to the overall style of Fort William Baptist. For my part and from what I have tried to work out myself, not relying on the interpretations of others, 'charismaticism' seems to have moved away from the notion that the dynamic of the church and the work of the Spirit of God is associated primarily with the ministry to the word of God. That is to say, charismatics seem to be believing that God will move as we exercise our gifts. There may be reason by observation to believe that but I personally feel that that leads to some very unfortunate practices which could be described as legalistic. 'If we just do things right God will bless!' So I was just wondering how you would resolve such a tension if indeed you see it as a tension at all. Maybe it is all just in my mind!
