The following is from a Paul Miller of Christiana's Bookshelf. The e-mail is self explanatory. Pastor John could use our help in many ways. I pray that the Lord moves your heart to help this dear brother in this most difficult time. An article on this tragedy is below Paul's letter. In His grip, Chris Arnzen Dear Praying and Giving Friends, I want to write and thank all of you who have prayed for, and given to, Pastor John Steenburgh, pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Gloversville, NY. As you know, a couple of weeks ago Pastor John lost his entire family to a fire that also destroyed his home and belongings. Last night I received the unfortunate news that Pastor Steenburgh's insurance company will not reimburse him for his home or possessions. All has been lost (but all is not hopeless with a loving, living God, amen?). In light of this, the love offerings that have been received from many of you mean even more. We have been so blessed to receive offerings literally from all over the world. This week we received a donation from Japan. Many young people have also given. God bless them for their labor of love. God will not forget you in your hour of need. To date, over $3,200.00 has been collected. To God be the glory! If God has led you to give it is not to late to do so. Simply send a check or money order payable to me to the address below. You can also pay via Paypal (www.paypal.com) using the email address steenburghoffering@.... Most importantly, please keep praying for this dear brother as he slowly, and with the help of God, gets his life back in some sense of order. It won't be easy, but with God's help and the prayers of God's people, all things are possible. God is good. May He bless you richly. Sincerely in Christ, Paul D. Mother, sons killed in Ephratah fire Furnace looked at as possible cause of fatal blaze A family friend managed to escape the fire at 109 Church Hill Road, but three of the family members who loved there were killed. Photo: John LeBosquet / WNYT By Dan Bazile WNYT-TV Updated: 1:20 p.m. ET March 30, 2004 March 23 - A fire claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her two children in Fulton County. The fire broke out Tuesday morning in the home at 109 Church Hill Road in the town of Ephratah. Five-year-old Josiah Steenburgh, 16-year-old Daniel Steenburgh and their mother, 31-year-old Melissa Steenburgh, were killed. The sadness in the small town could be felt in the air. Neighbors, friends and family members just cannot believe John Steenburgh lost his whole family in one fell swoop. Fire officials were at the scene late Tuesday afternoon trying to figure out what sparked the blaze. They say the furnace may be to blame. Four people were sleeping inside when the fire started around 8 a.m. "It was all of a sudden. We were all asleep. I was getting up and going to get ready for work and smoke was coming through my vent," recalled Kerry Dillenbeck, a family friend who was staying at the house. She managed to escape and run for help. However, the family was trapped inside. The mother and two boys tried to climb through a second-floor window, but never made it out. "She has been everything that I've ever hoped for in a wife, and I'm not sure where I'll go on without her," John Steenburgh said Tuesday afternoon. John Steenburgh's brother and two sisters were standing by his side to offer support. He's a devout Christian and a pastor. He says without his strong faith he would be lost. -- Read the Sound of Grace pages at http://www.soundofgrace.com To unsubscribe, send ANY message to: soundofgrace-unsubscribe@...
