The righteousness of Leviticus 18 is an undefiled righteousness that separates the Israelites from the other nations. I don't see verse 5 as a promise for eternal life but rather being allowed to live compared to the penalties that Leviticus 20 gives us: "he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones." We would call this "righteous" person an "innocent" person or a "law abiding citizen" who has no need to fear the penalties of breaking the law. Still, unless our righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees we will not enter the kingdom of heaven. There is a contrast between a righteous man and a man of faith. Proverbs 11: 31 "If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!" 1 Peter 4:8 Harry malajaa@... wrote: Mike writes: Then Harry, what is the "righteousness which is based on the Law" about which Moses writes?
