I almost always avoid using runing commentaries such as the Message and I just don't care for the NIV. My own favorite is the NASB but for pulpit or teaching I prefer the ESV. I'm no original language scholar so I have to employ all of the helps I can get my hands on. If I need a language scholar I call 1-555-nogreek. If that doen't help I call JGR. Grace!
