While the NASB is more literal, and should be in every library, I like to recommend the NKJV, for it's combination of readability and accuracy. Where it deviates from the more literal, it usually will have a margin note correcting itself (a little silly, but better than nothing). The NIV is too interpretive, even translating "flesh" as "sinful nature", as I've recently posted under another topic. Also, they borrow from whatever underlying Greek text they want to for an individual passage. There are good arguments for both sides of the "Majority vs. Ancient" text argument, but there is no good argument for just making it up as you go along with an eclectic blend. I have to admit to enjoying and getting some light from The Message, as Peterson blasts through some of my preconceived ideas, and gets me to look at some passages in a fresh way...but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone's main Bible...way too interpretive. Would you suggest the Message? The New Living Translation? The NIV? Or a different one? Would you preach from the same version or do you have another preference? Are there version you would not touch with a ten foot pole? Why? Which do you like and why? Harry __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security.
