I think there's a difference between "blotting out" and "cancelled".
Cancelling has more to do with "the effects of" rather than the actually "existence
of".

This participle is rendered as follows in modern translations:
canceling - ESV
having canceled - NIV
having canceled out - NASB
having wiped out - NKJV
erasing - NRSV
I believe that a careful study of this word in the original will demonstrate that
these translations are warranted.
