Peter

Masters and the church have done tremendous work, in quantity and quality,
for the kingdom of God. Check out the website for an idea.
http://www.metropolitantabernacle.org/

My first encounter with them was through 'The Sword & Trowel'. As I recall,
they recommenced publication of this sometime after Masters took the church
out of the Baptist Union. Anyway, it was responsible for a big maturing of
my walk, a sobering-up to responsibilities in the light of what God had done
for me. The 'Tab' also provided an excellent bookshop for solidly Reformed
material. And their evangelistic zeal completely refuted the idea that
being 5-point Calvinists means apathy in outreach. Their sunday school work
is also an inspiration.

We would not go along with Peter Masters on his sabbath views, but anything
he says is well worth hearing.

In short, Spurgeon's witness is alive and well in his former church, in
regards to Calvinism, Evangelism and Separation. That is not to say it is
identical: lessons have been learnt. I think Masters is more cautious about
who enters his pulpit than Spurgeon was, for Masters has seen the outcome of
giving credibility misguided brothers. Masters also is Amillennial where
Spurgeon was Premillennial.

Hope that helps.

In Him

Ian

Ouch - thanks Ian...That's why I was asking the question - as I understand
that just because it has Spurgeon name - that doesn't necessarily mean it
holds to his views.

Do you, or and if so, how do you see Peter Masters doing in terms of
carrying on the legacy of the "Prince of Preachers"?

  Dear Peter

Spurgeon's College of today is NOTHING spiritually to that of Spurgeon's
day. Spurgeon stood against the apostasy, leading the war against the
Downgrade in the Baptist Union of his time. Spurgeon's College is part of
that apostate denomination now. Compromised evangelicals among its staff
may have Spurgeon's name on their lips, but not his beliefs.

The real heir to Spurgeon's mantle today is Dr. Peter Master's, pastor of
Spurgeon's church, the Metropolitan Tabernacle at the Elephant and Castle,
  London.

  In Christ

  Ian

No I haven't heard him at all - I am a pastor in a BCOQ church - founded
and
grounded in McMaster Divinity School - where Clark Pinnock has been
teaching
for many years. I see that Mac is having him come to speak in their
preachers conference - and given the history of apostasy that McMaster and
Dr. Pinnock continue to expound - I was shocked to see Mr Quicke's
esume -
  with reference the Spurgeon's College.

I wondered if I was missing something - or if it would be worth a listen

I would like to hear him!
But I don't think "he was principle of Spurgeon's College in London"
now if you had said principal I would have had to agree.
    Does he have any tapes?

I wonder if you know of this person - Michael Quicke of Northern
Theological Seminary in Chicago, and if he might be worth hearing? Says he
was principle of Spurgeon's College in London - it peeked my interest.
  What'd ya think?
