John Armstrong has already for some time embraced the
neo-legalist New Perspective of Paul, so it is a fairly small
step to Romanist sympathies.

The key error is the simple biblical truth that to add works of
any kind to grace, makes it no longer grace (Rom. 11:6). This
is true whether speaking of *initial* salvation, or *keeping*
salvation (perseverance).

As long as one understands and maintains the purity of Sola
Gratia, by Grace Alone, much of the trend towards New
Perspective, Auburnism, Romanism, etc. will be avoided. But
when legalism (which is really the self-righteousness of the
flesh) rears it's ugly head, the gospel will be dragged in the
dirt.

By the way, a core ingredient of this slide has always been
infant baptism, by far the biggest lingering mistake of the
Reformers---an infection with no antibiotic except the Word of
God, which the traditions of men have made of none effect in way
too many circles.

Don't shout me down, just 'cause I'm preachin' good!
