I put sing into Biblegateway.com and came up with several verses which
tell us to sing. Here are a few examples:
Rom 15:9 "and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.""
Rom 15:11 "And again, "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to him, all you peoples."
1 Cor 14:15 "What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also."
Eph 5:19 "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,"
Col 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
Heb 2:12 "He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises."
James 5:13 "Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise."

Limitations are that the songs are songs of praise that we sing with thanksgiving in our hearts.

1. What is the new testament record concerning singing? what are the
limitations and guidelines/

2. While Psalm singing is a great idea, and we should sing them (not
exclusively), very few do so.
Even the Reformed Presbys do not sing them word for word, they adapt them
into songs for the most part.

3. New covenant instruction: Sing praises to the Lord. sing doctrinally
accurate songs. Change words to songs you cannot otherwise sing.
