So you are saying that acquired and merited does not equal earned? So your theory of Christ doing what Adam could not do within the covenant of works does not involve works? "Nowhere in that quote does Calvin say Christ merited grace" --> "By his obedience Christ truly acquired and merited grace for us." He did it us for us according to this quote, what did he do? He aquired and merited grace based upon His obedience. He earned it! (according to the quote!) Harry "Chad R. Calvin is not saying Christ earned the grace. Nowhere in that quote does Calvin say Christ merited grace. Christ gave us grace based on His merit. In fact, the last sentence interprets the first sentence. By Christ's obedience (merit), we are received into favor (the grace that flows from his merit). One cannot strip the first half of Calvin's quote from the last half and correctly interpret it. Without Christ's merit, there would be no ground by which to grace us... Christ's merit is our grace. And again, no one who holds to a covenant of works believes that Christ earned or merited grace. It is a misrepresentation of the position (certainly my own).
