Hope you all had a great time on Thanksgiving - we have so much to be
thankful for.
We have 3 grandkids to help raise now - Tyrell is 7, his sister Emily is 3,
cousin Chandler is 3 - Mommy picks him up each evening when she gets off
work. Tyrell and Emily live here now.
One day, I was listening to the 2 younger ones play while Tyrell was still
at school. They like to play "cooking dinner" - while I do the real thing.
They finished "cooking" and it was time to eat - they joined hands and
started to pray. "God is good, thank him for our food. Bless Mommies and
Daddies, help them to do the right thing." That one line is how they hear Papa
pray for their parents. We have much more to pray for the parents - but not
too many details for their ears.
Wednesday night Tyrell & Emily went to prayer service with us. My husband
(Papa) was leading the service - so we sang the songs the children love,
along with some we love - then he asked each person (we are a small group) to
name something they are thankful for. Emily got shy and needed help. Others
had things to name - but Tyrell took my breath away. A very insecure child,
many problems, little discipline until now - piped up with "I'm thankful for
my Grandma Charlene - she fixes me food anytime I ask for it!" Sad, he's
not had that before - sometimes there wasn't food in the house to fix,
sometimes no one who had the time or priority to feed the kids. When he left to
spend Thanksgiving weekend with his "other family", he cried and asked me to
save him a plate of our dinner. Emily cried wanting to stay - but they both
wanted to see Daddy, too.
Pray for these youngsters, and for us as we try to give them the love,
stability, and guidance they so desperately need. Pray for their parents -
Chandler's Mom is doing well. Dad is not. Tyrell and Emily's parents are both
having problems, starting with not being in relationship with Christ.
Blessings to you all.
Charlene
