James was not writing about Christians as "forgetful hearers". We must interpret the text as James intended. The forgetful hearers are one and the same as "enemies of God" (James 4:4). The forgetful hearers are those whose "faith is dead" (James 2:17). Theirs is a worthless religion (1:26).
