File Name: 13b-micr-font.hqx (68 k)
Date: Jan 29, 2000
From: Michel Bujardet Subject: MICR E13B Type Typeface Version: 01/29/2000 Shareware $39.95 The MICR E13B Match font emulates the special printers or printer cartridge used to print the special characters at the bottom of checks used in the US and Canada. It is provided in both TrueType and PostScript format. With a laser printer it is possible to print checks without using pre-printed stock. This allows greater flexibility and the creation of custom applications for instance the printing of check fac-simile for payment over electronic transactions with checks. The MICR E13B Match font has been successfully used by hundreds of US and Canadian companies. The later is very important since canadian standards are stricter than US ones and some cheap fonts available will not pass. The documentation also indicates how to test MICR printing. The registered version comes with information about where to find magnetic toner how to implement the font and other valuable information about MICR technology. This font has numbers and blocky check characters only.

From: jasonrainbows@mindspring.com Subject: 2LavaLamps 2LavaLamps An AfterDark ScreenSaver Module by Jason Rainbows' Magic Theatre E-Mail: rainbow@kagi.com http://www.mindspring.com/~jasonrainbows Requires: Macintosh, AfterDark, color monitor. Two lava lamps to amuse your eyes while you and your Mac are idle. Transport your Mac back in time, to a place where there's bean-bag chairs, 8-track tapes, florescent posters, op-art wallpaper, and incense fuming in a brass holder next to the copy of "The Last Whole Earth Catalogue" while Neil Diamond sings "Lordy" from the album on the turntable. For those of you who are too young to remember those days, allow me to enlighten you... Several years ago, your ancestors (those old people you see all the time) used the lava lamp as a soothing centerpiece and powerful aphrodasiac. Combined with intoxicating beverages and the right kind of music, the lava lamp was a powerful tool in the hands of the right person. It can work for YOU too! Try it! But you'll have to get your OWN lava lamp. In the meantime, here's a nifty screensaver that you can practice with. It features, not one, but TWO lava lamps! Lava lamps in STEREO! Double the pleasure, double the fun. I can hardly contain my excitement. (NOTE TO AOL USERS: I was being sarcastic when I said "I could hardly contain my excitement", it's not really THAT exciting to watch a lava lamp) This module is made possible by "The Chicken Man of Ackron Ohio", who creates editable modules for AfterDark ScreenSaver. From: busse@magnet.at Subject: 3D-Box 3D-Box * Requirements: PPC, 6 MB RAM, MacOS 7.55 and up, (8.0 and before also need the Appearance manager; info at the website) * Description: 3DBox is an application that creates boxes in OBJ format and matching texture map templates as PICTs. You give the heigth, width and length of the box and decide in which resolution you would like to get the texture map. The created models can be used in any 3D program that supports OBJ import and parametric mapping of textures. 3DBox provides the option to leave gaps at certain edges in the texture map, so you can create completely different designs for the different sides of your box without getting the usual inaccuracies at the edges of the box. * Further notices: 3D-Box may be included in commercially available CD-ROM of the archives.

Registered users of versions 7 and 8 will not need to reregister. The registration process is fixed in version 9. ( In versions 7 and 8, registration was broken in Sept. 1997). You can only do 5 shots per day until you register. As the Registration window instructions say: To register 8-Ball Emulator 9 for this computer, first use the 8-Ball Registration application that comes with 8-Ball Emulator to pay for registration. When you get your payment confirmation, from Kagi, create a Key Request letter with the machine code above and the confirmation TransactionID, and send it to scottknudsen@compuserve.com. The 'Save...Letter' and 'Copy...' buttons below will help you. A Key Code will be returned to you that will unlock 8-Ball, for the machine whose code is in the Key Request letter. Once you enter the Key Code in the box above, you can play without interruption. You can also send a check and the letter to Kagi. If you are paying with credit card, you can email (sales@kagi.com) or fax ( 510 652 6589 ) the application info. From: Angela Brett Subject: ACRONYMS (v1.0.1) - A Casual Round-up Of Novelties in YourMessage System (words and phrases in capitals are acronyms whose expansions are in the stack) The purpose of this FREEWARE HYPERCARD STACK is to provide an introduction to a MIRTHFUL use of ACRONYMS on the INTERNET. Have you ever wished you had a better alternative to LOL? Or thought "Who makes up these WITTICISMs?" Well anybody can, you can! Don't say you're JUST TOO BUSY! and you don't want to READ A MANUAL. You can create an ACRONYM out of ALMOST ANYTHING! You can make them from any old CLICHE, use them to tell people to SHUT UP, state that THAT'S NOT FUNNY, tell a GIRL that she's FEMININE, SMILE a SMUG SMILE or just find FLAWS in the MEMORY of a UNIVERSITY EINSTEIN. Take a DIRTY MIND, add a CHUCKLE, stir in a QUIP, and a QUANTITY of SNORTING, stick on a DISCLAIMER, and that's THE WAY THINGS ARE! You can politely tell people to PISS OFF, PUT A SOCK IN IT, BE CIVIL or tell them THAT'S CHILDISH. You can tell people that they're talking BOLLOCKS! And if you're ON A ROLL, you can create a HUMDINGER of a reply to someone who won't TRY ONSCREEN HELP. So who began this BIZARRE ADVENTURE through the ALPHABET? A CRAZED KIWI and an ABNORMAL IRISH man with a DIRTY MIND, who found themselves making up LAUGHTER ACRONYMS during their EPISTLES to the ANTIPODES - a sequence of combinations started when TONY MCCOY O'GRADY (MAXIOGEE) sent ANGELA BRETT AN EMAIL about his SLEUTHing in some of her SHAREWARE. They decided not to continue DOING NOTHING about their HILARIOUS ACRONYM stash, so they compiled them into this STACK, and in the process created a SUPERHERO called MACGIRL, her SIDEKICK KEYBOARD, and many DASTARDly VILLAINs. Both these WEIRD ACRONYM WRITERS like APPLE and think that MACINTOSH IS THE BEST! ANGELA has two POWERBOOKs and the DIRTY OLD IRISHMAN has a BONDI BLUE iMAC, a broken NEWTON and a few other MACINTOSHes. We haven't yet collected EVERY ACRONYM UNDER THE SUN, but we'd like to try... think some up yourself and send them to angela@kagi.com for inclusion in the next update list for this stack. (You can download the latest update lists from the acronyms site on the WORLD WIDE WEB at http://un.co.nz/angela/acronyms and import them into the stack.)

File Name: aeaea-11.hqx (956 k)
Date: Jan 15, 1999
From: muhenry@eastnet.educ.ecu.edu Subject: aeaea-11 AEAEA-11.hqx is an algorithmic stand-alone music application, it plays lush music and cycles mystic pictures of Circe's island, Aeaea (Malta), where Odysseus' sailors were enchanted. Can be used as an artistic-mystic background while you chill out. YOU NEED: Apple's Quicktime (2.5) and Sound Manager, System 7.+ DETAILS: AEAEA-11 was realized on a Mac 8500 PPC (system 7.5.5, QT 2.5) using Opcode System's MAX 3.0. program. Virus checked.Compressed with Stuffit Lite. AVAILABILITY: AEAEA-11 is free to individuals for their private enjoyment. Distribution by CD Rom and other means: OK, please notify by e-mail. **************** ***************** *********** QuickStart: Double-click on the Aeaea.11.app in the Program Folder. Hit the SPACE BAR to start and stop. The music plays on the Mac's internal speakers. If possible, hook your computer's audio output into your HiFi system. Do not remove the AEAEA-11.app from its folder; it is an APPLICATION, so close by opening the Apple control bar File menu and selecting "QUIT". Notes: According to Homer's epic, The Odyessy, when Odysseus (Ulyssus) and his men reached the mysterious island of Aeaea, they were enchanted by the sorceress Circe. Malta, a small 15-by-17 mile island off the coast of Sicily in the Med. seems to be the likely place for this encounter. Homer's description of the landing in a fair bay (St. Paul's bay) and the promentory from which a temple in the middle of the island was seen all seem to reinforce this idea. Also important is the discovery of Minoan- era temple ruins with bull figures and oracle whispering holes. Malta has a long history of occupation by many cultures: Romans, Arabs, The Knights of St. John, Napoleon, the English etc. Although totally Catholic in religion, they speak an Arabic-based language which is written using the Roman alphabet. Malta became an independent nation shortly after WW II and the entire island was given the George Cross for its valiant role during that struggle (hence the initials after the name: Malta, G.C.) I spent 6 weeks in Malta during the summer of 1972 (mainly in the small fishing village of Marsasloxx) and took many slides and pictures of the curious landscapes, churches and bells. All the time I was there - and ever as I remember or dream of it - Malta was a rich, exciting enchanted island full of wonderful loving people to whom a smile, a joke and a drink with one's companions were the best things in life. However, their way of life and sense of time was very different. Most people seemed to get up very early and go to bed shortly after sunset. Malta, a very densely populated island, seemed totally deserted by late afternoon just when the sun was so right for taking pictures, and so many of my color slides were landscapes without people in them.

From: (Paul M. Sheldon) psheldon@utdallas.edu Subject: Albrecht 101 - Los Alamos book exemplifies newton press outlining Herein find an example of what newton press can do. The book I made from Albrecht's electronic research paper might not be interesting in content, except to an expert in quantum mechanics interpretation, but it best exemplifies what anyone can do with a latex program and newton press, so I thought it might be appropriate here. I might have put my own, much shorter, paper to Los Alamos up instead for less bandwidth, but then you wouldn't see the outlining power of newton press both needed and implemented. For those experts amongst you, "naughtyword 7.1 is gooooooood". So, here again is what I did in order illustrating how easy it is. With textures, a typesetting program, I retypeset in the latex source to produce pages the size of newton screen and then printed these to picture-files with print to pict. Then I dragged ordered page-pictures in folders into the newton press ap to get a book. Very easy. Then, I built an outline to navigate in the book. I can enjoy long dog walks in cool nights (here in hot day Dallas, Texas) while reading science research on the new glowing mp130.

Several preset favourite folders are supplied, to which you can add your own. Simply drag a file onto Alias Arranger, choose a location for the alias, and the alias is created there without your having to mess about with Finder windows. You can also name an alias while creating it and choose a generic suffix for all aliases created using Alias Arranger. As well as a few minor fixes, version 1.1 allows you to quickly search a folder or disk for unattached alias files, which you can then assign to new targets or delete. Alastair Matthews Click! From: yellowsoft@kagi.com Subject: AliasCrony 2.2.0; Alias management. AliasCrony is the ultimate alias manager. It has several features: - Since aliases of applications lose the capability to have files dropped on, when the original is on a different volume, AliasCrony can create SuperAlias, a new alias kind, having drag capability always active. - It can create aliases or SuperAliases and put them into specific predefined folders, when you're using the Drag&Drop mode. From its menus, instead, you can select the destination folders by using a speedy way. - It can update aliases (also as SuperAliases) on the fly or else through its menus. - It can add, to aliases, some useful custom icon, freeing a bit of space on desktop (as before: you can add the custom icon on the fly or else by using the proper menu). -You may configure any action of above through preferences and change them with one keystroke before creating aliases or SuperAliases . - It can scan all on-line volumes to create lists of: a) attached aliases, b) unattached aliases, c) aliases and originals on different volumes. - It can scan also individual folders-disks. The created lists return useful infos about the aliases found, moreover, from these lists, AliasCrony can do several actions: a) retrieves and shows aliases and originals. b) links/updates/deletes/moves aliases. c) shows the Finder's Info window, about aliases and originals. d) updates aliases of applications to SuperAliases. e) trashs the whole aliases list. AliasCrony is Internet Config and Navigation Manager aware, Appearance Savvy and requires at least System Seven to run.

Predator Screen Shots (JPEG) Enclosed are 16 screen shots of the Atari Jaguar's game, "Alien VS. Predator". The scene is an area that many players rarely get a chance to see, the Queen's Chamber. These JPEG pictures showcase the Queen's eggs, facehuggers, a battle with the Queen and her death, and a futile attempt to flee her ship. These shots were taken as the Atari Jaguar fed video into the Power Macintosh 7500, using the freeze-frame feature of the Apple Video Player. The pictures saved by the freeze-frame option were then converted to JPEG format to down-size the pictures to 33k each. Quality was set at 50 0x0.0002e0000002ep-1022nd no apparent loss is visually noted. The 16 screen shots are residing in a folder and were further compressed with StuffItLite (yes, even more compression occured). I attempted a QuickTime movie, but it is entirely too large to be sent over the net. Use StuffItExpander to process this contribution. Use Gif Converter, JPEG View, or any other JPEG-capable utility to view these pictures. --Larry Rymal

It contains links to all the viewable QuickTime and QuickTimeVR movies hidden on the CyberDrive CD-ROM so you can access them at full speed whether online or offline. From: lesch@macvirus.com Subject: Anonymous(tm) 1.2.1 Have you ever wondered what your font is missing? Line feeds, the Apple characters like the Apple symbol and many more appear as blank boxes in lots of fonts. Almost all of the Macintosh characters, including decimal 1-24 and 218-255, and many not in ProFont, are now visible in Anonymous(tm). Anonymous is a nonproportional or monospaced 9 point bitmap font designed for programming, and for distinguishing between characters that can easily be confused in the Macintosh reserved ROM font Monaco 9. For example, in the Monaco 9 bitmap, an uppercase O looks like a zero, and a lowercase L looks like an uppercase i. Anonymous has a beautiful overall color when set into text, and is easy to read in long stretches. The font's name begins with A for easy access in font menus. Bitmap only, not for printing. Recommended for those who are looking for a monospaced serif font and have found Monaco, ProFont and Courier wanting, and for those who spend a lot of time typing and reading on a monitor. From: hadleysw@ornl.gov Subject: AppleWindows 2.0.2 AppleWindows is a freeware utility that makes the application menu (up in the right hand corner) much more usable. It: - lets you switch between applications with a modifier+left and right arrow - lets you switch between open windows of an application with a modifier+up and down arrow - makes the application menu heirarchical so you can jump between open windows of an application - makes different areas of your screen hotspots to pop up the application menu. (I set the outside of my screen as the hot spot so get the application menu by just moving the mouse pointer to the edge and clicking) - lets you set popup command keys for the application menu to popup anywhere with a mouse-click (I use ctl+shift+click) It was written back in 1993 by Hiro Yamamoyo but still works like a charm even up to OS 8.1. Unfortunately, it was so well written it hasn't been updated since then and so has dropped off of the Info-Mac lists (althugh still on the UMich archives). I'm resubmitting this with the permission of the author; I'm just a very satisfied user. Stan Hadley

From: Mike Trivisonno Subject: Archer 1.0.3 Eridanus today released Archer 1.0.3. This release adds a Show Info option which, when activated, displays image information in the upper left-hand corner of the image. And, by popular demand, an indicator light has been added which flashes on and off while scanning for images. As always, Archer is completely free. Archer is a small, fast slide show player that supports audio and video as well as still images. Archer supports multiple players running at the same time each with their own set of images, speed setting, and size. You can also append images to the slide show. When not in full-screen mode, a scroll bar is available to navigate through the images. Dispensing with many of the Command, Control, and Option key combinations and implementing a simpler hit-a-key-make-something-happen approach Archer makes activities like creating new players and and importing images, for example, as easy as hitting the “N” and the “I” keys. Of course, all the menus and standard shortcuts are also available. Archer can be downloaded from the Eridanus web site: http://www.eridanus.com/products/products.html Eridanus, Inc. has provided consulting services for government agencies, small companies, and large corporations for over a decade.

All commands carry on Archer’s mash-the-keyboard simplicity. In addition the single-keystroke commands, all new commands also have standard menu and command key equivalents. Archer is a free, easy-to-use slide show play for OS X. Use Archer to combine still images, audio, and video files into the same slide. With Archer you can also run several slide shows at the same time. Each slide show can be configured and sized differently. To make navigating through the images easy, a scroll bar is available when not in full screen mode. You can even navigate through the images while the slide show is playing...just in case you want to go back an see an image again. From: furlan@creativesyn.inet.it Subject: Argus - AppSwitcher Control Panel argus.sit.hqx Argus is a shareware program useful for switching between applications using keyboard only. Extremely useful if in your work you need to switch repeatedly between two or three applications. It should run on any Mac running System 7. Argus is an application switcher inspired on the Windows 95 switcher. Pressing down the activator key (option by default) and the tab key, a window pops up displaying icons of all running applications. The most recently used application's icon (excluding the active one) is selected by default. If this is the application to which you want to switch, you can simply release the activator key, otherwise you can press the tabulator key (while hodling down the activator key) one or more times to switch between all running applications' icons in a round-robin fashion. You can invert the order in which the icons are selected by pressing the shift-tabulator key. When the desired aplication's icon is selected, you release the activator key and selected application is brought to front. You can modify the activator key(s) through the Argus control panel. You can also switch between displaying small icons and large icons in the Argus switcher window. Bye. Rajko Furlan e-mail: furlan@creativesyn.inet.it

The ARTIS Screen Tools include: * ARTIS Screen Ruler - Screen Ruler is a desktop utility displaying translucent rulers on top of all your windows on your screen. The rulers measure in pixels, inches, and centimeters, have no window shadow, may be translucent, and float on display the mouse coordinates relative to the ruler origins. * ARTIS Small Screen - Small Screen displays the size of small screens on you desktop. This is useful to evaluate your design on smaller screen sizes while working on a large screen. This classic tool for web designers is finally available for Mac OS X now. * ARTIS Screen Loupe - Screen Loupe is a desktop utility that displays a magnified view of whatever is underneath your mouse cursor. It allows to measure the color of the pixel underneath the mouse pointer and copy it in HTML and other formats to the clipboard. Additionally it has a "move away from mouse" option to be newer in your way. * ARTIS Screen Guides - Screen Guides displays visual guide lines on your desktop. This helps aligning objects in all applications that don't offer guides. The guides may be repeated to create a grid. System requirements: Mac OS X 10.1 or better Website: Author:

From: marco@spiderlink.it Subject: ASCII Converter ASCII converter - is a simple "drag and drop" application that converts text files from Windows to Macintosh. MacOS and Windows use two different ASCII tables (a way to represent the characters) so when you open a Windows text file with a Mac application all the characters like: è,à,é,ù,ì,ò etc. are misinterpreted. ASCII converter fixs this drawback and enable you to correctly read the text file. To convert a file, drag it over the ASCII converter icon until highlighted and release the mouse button. ASCII converter will create a new text file in the same directory of the original file.

File Name: asset-basset-297.hqx (1260 k)
Date: Aug 01, 2002
From: Ben Sharvy Subject: Asset Basset 2.97 Asset Basset tracks investments, specializing in asset allocation. It will perform the following useful functions: 1) It tracks allocations in various asset classes (foreign/domestic, equity/bond, small-cap/large-cap, etc.). A unique feature is the ability to allocate percentage amounts within a single investment; for example, a mutual fund 60 46n stock and 40 46n bonds can be accurately represented in Asset Basset. By enabling percentage allocations within an investment, Asset Basset lets you monitor the allocation and performance of your investments with a precision limited only by your knowledge of your own investments. 2) It lets you define portfolios using allocation criteria, e.g., "foreign" or "foreign fixed-income" and monitor the performance of the portfolio. 3) It calculates the cost-basis of each investment, using either the average-cost or first-in-first-out methods, and generates tax-reports of capital gains and distributions for any year. 4) It calculates total profit using the time-value of money, with methods such as the internal rate of return, and the discounting/compounding of cash flows. 5) It keeps track of total worth, out-of-pocket cost, and so on. Version 2.97 fixes a bug which kept portfolios from updating when the basis or cost in an account changed without changing the total value of the account. Asset Basset requires a 640x480 screen or better; a PowerPC is recommended (portfolio updating will be kinda slow on a 68k machine). It requires 1.5 MB of available RAM.
