From: yellowsoft@iol.it Subject: 37thResEx 2.0.2; the resources extractor. 37thResEx is a useful application for seeing, extracting, copying and transferring resources from files. By means of it you may: - view all types of resources into files; - view all resources of determined type; - view resources contents; - know resources attributes; - gather resources infos; - copy individual resources or whole types into already existing files or into new ones; - modify attributes of copied resources; - modify attributes of original resources; - remove from files individual resource or whole types; - check the Resource Fork integrity. 37thResEx can also convert resources of type 'snd ', 'TEXT', 'PICT', and icon families into double-clickable files: - converted Icon families show theirs own icon on the desktop; - converted 'snd ' resources become sound files; - converted 'TEXT' resources become styled text files - converted 'PICT' resources become pict files. Last, but not least: by means of hot key, you may achieve directly the Conversion dialogs, without opening the file-related window. Moreover, if you launch 37thResEx by using this feature, after completing its job it quits itself automatically. 37thResEx is Internet Config, Drag Manager, Balloon Help and Navigation Manager aware, moreover it's Appearance savvy. It requires at least System 7 to run. Date: Wed, 5 Jul 1995 09:37:01 -0600 From: g.tempel@xpedite.com (George (ty) Tempel) Subject: ABox 1.8 Hi all... The 'collective' of TopSoft Inc., a not-for-profit software programming group, is proud to announce the first public release of the ABox, also known as TSAbout, available for use within your non-commercial applications (be sure to read the license that comes with the ABox software, and all other TopSoft software packages). We wanted to come up with something that no-one had ever really seen or done before, much like our guiding principle for the FilterTop software, and release it as part of the FilterTop package as well as its own package. The ABox supports nearly all of the way-cool-nifty-gee-i-gotta-have features that Apple has been cranking out for System 7 and beyond. It supports QuickTime, the Text-to-Speech Manager, Drag-and-Drop, the Asynchronous Sound Manager, the old Threads Package, the new Threads Manager, is PowerPC capable via UPP's instead of ProcPtr's...you get the idea The ABox is really just a set of C++ classes that have a rather API for client software, based mainly upon the early documentation regarding Apple's Speech Recognition Manager; the ABox has an object-oriented "properties" driven API, where instead of providing lots of methods to do lots of things, there are a handful of methods to do lots of things. Most importantly, all client-adjustable features of the ABox are driven through a pair of easy to use methods that are documented in the ABox demo application and the web pages. Most importantly, the ABox can be used to display a set of Topics and Slides, which makes it useful for tasks such as enhanced about boxes, online reference, help, etc. Topics are really just files within a folder-tree, where each file is either a QuickTime movie, a text file (normal TEXT and SimpleText 'ttro'), a PICT file, or a file that contains a 'TSAb' resource which instructs the ABox which resources should be grouped together as Slides within the Topic (much like icon families...a group of resources that share the same ID). By pointing the ABox at the root of some folder tree containing files with 'TSAb' resources, you can make the ABox display a hierarchical list of topics that the user can then browse Oh, by the way...adding the ABox to your projects will add about 49K (even less when compiled and built with the latest Metrowerks CodeWarrior compiler! And now, some current news about the ABox... ------------------- Web Stuff: The _new_ ABox web pages are installed and available on the TS-Mac, so point your web surfers at: http://www.topsoft.org to see the TopSoft Home Page, which has a link to the ABox pages, or you can go directly to the ABox pages via http://www.topsoft.org/Projects/ABox/AB_Welcome.html ------------------- Current Versions: The current verion of the ABox software is v1.8, and is available as part of the FilterTop software release or as the ABox source & demo release, available via anonymous ftp to the TS-Mac (ftp.topsoft.org) or atlas (atlas.chem.utah.edu) ------------------- Please, take some time out during your web surfing and check out TopSoft's home page, and while you're at it grab a copy of the ABox for a test drive. thanks in advance george (ty) tempel dosgatos@injersey.com

From: ChrisLi@Bridge1.com Subject: AliasKeys 1.0.3 - assign keystrokes to open files and folders AliasKeys lets you assign keystrokes to open files and folders. Any item that the Finder can open may be dragged to the list of AliasKeys and assigned a combination of keys, to open it without touching your mouse. You can use AliasKeys for applications, documents, folders, aliases, preference panels, servers, scripts... Hitting the keys opens the corresponding item, as would a double-click on its icon. AliasKeys is basically as simple as that; it is also extremely easy to set up. AliasKeys needs Mac OS X 10.2 or better. It is fully compatible with 10.3 "Panther". AliasKeys is fully unicode-aware and can be used with any international keyboard and localized system version. Languages included: English, French, Japanese. Changes in version 1.0.3: * A couple of cosmetic bugs fixed in the French resources. * Previous versions used a self-copying "internet-aware" disk image. They are a good idea, but they only work well in some web browsers. For many users, they create a unmanageable situation that has caused plenty of tech support emails. Thus, with this version, we are back to a "plain" .dmg file, along with a .sit for backup. * Adventurous users can test a hidden feature. Open "~/Library/Preferences/net.widemann.aliaskeys.plist" and set openFinderSelectionWithCapsLock to YES (or true), then save, log out and login back. From now on, if the capslock key is down, AliasKeys will try to open the selected item(s) in the Finder with the triggered item. For example, if the AliasKey is set to open Preview, selecting a PDF file and hitting the AliasKey will launch Preview and open the PDF, even if the PDF's creator is Acrobat. This feature may hit snags when combining some file types with certain applications, so be warned and use at your own risk. We do NOT tech-support this feature, however we'll accept gladly any comment or suggestion that you wish to offer.

It does not however, contain a graphical font for display of ANSI graphics. BBS-ANSI Telnet has a few added resources to allow use of such graphics. The graphical font used comes from Zterm, a great shareware program that you should check out! Included are: * BBS-ANSI Telnet (fat) patch Patches NCSA Telnet 2.7b4 to support ANSI graphics. * NCSA Telnet Preferences Preferances that include an ANSI terminal. Choose it instead of "" to open an ANSI BBS window. * ansitest.gz This is an ANSI test file for those of you who don't have an ANSI graphic handy. It is compressed with GNUZip because FTP tends to eat ANSI chars. This is a quick hack by Dean Brissinger (brissing@thepentagon.com). Enjoy, and let me know if there is a better ANSI Terminal out there! Use of this software is AT YOUR OWN RISK. I needed an ANSI Telnet program, and quickly hacked two programs together to get one. I do not own this software, it belongs to it's authors at NCSA and those who wrote Zterm. This patch simply copies the font from Zterm and drops it into NCSA Telnet 2.7b4 (fat).

AOL DM Assist is a utility which provides many features lacking in the Download Manager. It does not replace DM, it enhances it & complements it. Many of these features are ones that I hope to see AOL add to the DM in later releases of the File Transfer Tool. Until then, I've created this. It does not modify, in any way, the America Online program or any of its Tools, nor does it affect the operation of the AOL software. The only AOL-related file which this program affects is the Mailbox files (as selected by the user). Primarily, AOL DM Assist allows you to manipulate the files in your Download Manager queues. You can move files up or down in the list to change the order that they are downloaded. You can easily delete multiple entries (DM can only delete one entry at a time--try clearing 100 entries from your Completed Downloads queue that way ;). I also added a "Holding Queue", so that you can hide entries from the DM to prevent them from being transferred during a FlashSession while still retaining the file info for later transfer. You can also reset any file to an untransferred state. Note that all this must be done while offline and while not running the AOL software. The AOL DM Assist package also contains ResEdit TMPL's for editing the file queue resources. America Online Download Manager Assistant is free (all I ask is that you send me email with your comments--positive and/or negative--on my little utility, or suggestions for features that you would like to see in AOL's Download Manager), though you may send cash if you feel it has saved you from headaches that the DM alone would have caused--I promise I won't stop you . I am considering writing a similar "External Tool" for improving the mail interface of AOL--better address lists, multiple "folders" for filing incoming messages based on subject/source/etc., easier message deletion, and so forth. This presumes that AOL does not make such improvements themselves in the near future. If there is something that you would like to see as far as improvements to AOL's mail or download interface, let me know and I'll consider them. -- Dave Martin - TAMU/GERG - DAVE@GERGA.TAMU.EDU - DBM@AOL.COM --

From: peter@stairways.com.au (Peter N Lewis) Subject: Assimilator 1.1 Assimilator is designed for Macintosh lab situations where you want to make all the harddisk's in a lab look almost identical. When the Assimilator program is run on a lab Macintosh it will mount an AppleShare file server and then make the harddisk look more or less exactly like a pre-specified source folder on the server. It does this by throwing away (into the Trash) any files or folders that don't belong or are different and downloading any missing files. Icon positions, folder views, finder flags and so forth are all corrected on the client Macintosh to match the source folder. Although it is designed for student lab situations, it might also be useful in other circumstances, such as for setting up newly purchased Macs or in testing or demo labs. Changes since 1.1 include: * Open Transport IP address, and PCI ethernet address compatibility. * You can set a folder to be downloaded only if the destination folder is missing. * Interoperability with MacPrefect and MacAdministrator. * Various bug fixes and enhancements. Assimilator requires System 7 and a harddisk and is $10 shareware. Version 1.1 is a free upgrade to registered users who registered after 1 Jan 1996. Users who registered prior to 1996 can upgrade and receive a 50 46iscount. Enjoy, Peter. Assimilator v1.1 Copyright 1994-97 Peter N Lewis

(really!) * Fixed updating of byte edit box when the sector number is changed with the file list selected. * Internal enhancements: better memory handling, some routines rewritten to be more compact and efficient, several redundant code blocks replaced with subroutine calls. * Improved Atari <-> Mac file name conversion. * The "Save Sector" button is now enabled and disabled as appropriate. * When clicking on a list (file/hexadecimal/ASCII) to activate it, the current selection is now preserved. * Byte selection between the hexadecimal and ASCII sector data lists has been synchronized. * Major dialog boxes have been converted to movable modal dialogs. * Two arrow controls have been added to the sector editor, allowing easy sequential sector navigation. * A new preferences dialog lets users choose how boot data is stored, and whether to use Rainbow type/creator codes. * When adding or erasing a bootable DOS file on Atari DOS 2.x disks, the boot sector data is no longer overwritten. * The free sector indicator in virtual disk windows now shows the total usable sectors and free space in KB. * The file/directory list header now displays the total number of items in the current directory. * Multiple items can now be selected in the file/directory list. * Files with creator/type codes of "A8VD/TEXT" can now be imported into virtual disks from the Finder. * Drag and Drop support added. * Many additional small UI changes/improvements to menus, dialogs, and the disk windows. AtariVD Editor 1.3 is freeware. Requires System 7.5 or later. Richard A. Carvel rcarvel@wspice.com Permission is granted to distribute AtariVD Editor 1.3 on the official Info-Mac CD-ROM.

From: h.prill@magnet.at Subject: Austrian Patch for Mac OS D-8.1 This patch is similar to the one I posted earlier today. The other one was for OS 8.5, this one patches the German version of Mac OS 8.1. It adds some Austrian data to your system file, *replacing* the corresponding German ones and thus compensating the lack of Austrian localization resources in the Mac OS. You'll notice the difference in the control panels Datum & Uhrzeit, Tastatureinstellungen and Zahlenformate, plus, of course, in the keyboard menu. This patch only works with the German version of Mac OS 8.1. Do not attempt to install it over other versions. Disclaimer You use this software at your own risk. I have tested it and found it to work fine, but there is no implicit or explicit warranty that it works. If it damages your computer, if you lose any data, or if anything nasty happens, I am not to be made responsible. Freeware This patch is absolutely free and may be distributed freely, as long as no money is charged for it. Contact E-mail: h.prill@magnet.at WWW: http://aardvark.magnet.at/hp/ October 10th, 1998

From: John Rethorst Subject: AutoCheck 2.4.2 Automates Apple's Disk First Aid (a free program distributed with the Mac OS) to check all disks at once, except remote and read-only volumes and any you exclude. A complete run through a typical configuration takes less than five minutes. The importance of something like AutoCheck, maybe placed in the Mac's Startup Items folder, is that most users run Disk First Aid or a similar utility only when experiencing problems. But a lot of disk damage is incremental, and early detection and repair can be crucial to safeguarding data. By itself, Disk First Aid takes several steps to run. AutoCheck automates the entire process, with several convenient options. It stops and posts a dialog only if a disk error is found. Otherwise, it runs and then quits Disk First Aid and itself by the time you've gotten a cup of coffee, and your Mac has a clean bill of health. This is really nothing spectacular but I haven't seen or heard of anything like it so here it is. What: Better UDebugger is a patch for PowerPlant 1.1 (CW6). It's includes this document, an altered "PP DebugAlerts.rsrc" and a patch for "UDebugger.cp". How: Replace the "PP DebugAlerts.rsrc" found in the PowerPlant Resources folder inside your PowerPlant Libraries folder and apply the patch to "UDebugger.cp" found inside the Utility Classes folder. The patch is an UpdateMaker document and the application can be found on your CodeWarrior CD. UpdateMaker should be on your HD so just open the patch. To see the changes you have to use debugAction_Alert by adding these two lines to your main(): SetDebugThrow_(debugAction_Alert); SetDebugSignal_(debugAction_Alert); Why: After "installation" you'll be given more options everytime an exception or signal occurs. You'll be able to quit the program (great when you're caught in a loop or just want to go home and never program again), break into the debugger (great when you want more info and track those critters down) or just continue ("I didn't see that..."). Maybe not the greatest hack in the world but hey, it made me smile a couple of times. Mattias Fornander (snutt@netaxs.com) Anark Corp.

From: jeffl@diac.com (Jeff Laing) Subject: Berkeley Yacc plugin for CodeWarrior Yacc 1.9.1 for CodeWarrior is based largely on Berkeley Yacc 1.9 and was converted to the Metrowerks CodeWarrior IDE by Jeff Laing. Code generation was modified specifically for CodeWarrior and a number of the more obscure “syntax error” type errors that Berkeley Yacc produces have been enhanced to provide more information. Version 1.9.1 was recompiled with CW9 and version 4 of the plugin API and adds the following features: • 9.761181e-313xpect allows suppression of shift/reduce & reduce/reduce warning • Moved skeleton code into TEXT resources in plugin • Added flag to generate .cp files instead of .c and corrects the following bugs: • output files are now truncated before use. • text after grammar now included in output files. • preferences now correctly saved. This plugin is not free, nor is it in the public domain. It comes with the hefty shareware fee of 15 US Dollars (if you pay via Kagi) or 15 Australian Dollars (if you pay directly by cash or cheque on an Australian bank). Permission is explicity given for this software to be included on compilation CD-ROM's and other collections provided that Tristero Computer Systems receive a fully registered copy of the disk it appears on. Metrowerks have explicit permission to include this software on all CodeWarrior releases. Jeff Laing

From: mark@mrdataworks.com Subject: BugScan 1.0b1 Revision BugScan 1.0b1 October 23, 1998 BugScan is freeware - by downloading this file, you agree to use it at your own risk. This application was mainly designed for our clients to determine if they do in fact have the AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files on their hard drives. These viruses have become real pests for many of us. Make sure you use Virex or Norton Anti Virus if you get a red light (and then call your local computer consultant). If you get a green light, bonus! If you don't own one of these applications already, make one of them your next purchase. BugScan will detect all files for all strains of the AutoStart 9805 Worm current at 10/23/98 as well the Graphics Accelerator Extension (GAX). BugScan will also detect any combination of these files. Click BugScan's 'Help' button to read more about the viruses themselves. We strongly recommend that you restart your Mac with extensions off (holding down the 'shift' key) before running BugScan. You can now restart your Mac from directly within BugScan if needed. BugScan gives you two scanning options: Quick Scan Method Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in their exact locations on the selected volume. This method does a top level scan and a system level scan on the selected volume (a system level scan is performed only if there is a System Folder on the selected volume). Full Scan Method Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in all locations on the selected volume - in other words, everywhere. Note that the full scan method takes much longer and even longer yet when scanning network volumes. This is, however, the recommended method. BugScan gives you three menu options: Install 9805 Defense Creates invisible, locked folders in the appropriate locations on your startup disk to combat the AutoStart 9805 Worm. Install GAX (Graphics Accelerator) Defense Creates an invisible, locked folder in the Extensions Folder on your startup disk to combat the Graphics Accelerator Virus. Open QuickTime Control Panel Opens the QuickTime Control Panel and prompts you to turn the "Enable CD-ROM AutoPlay" function off. BugScan quits immediately after opening the Control Panel. If BugScan locates any virus applications and/or virus reference files, BugScan will attempt to remove them. If any of the files are already in use (infecting your hard drive), BugScan warns you and prompts you to delete them manually. BugScan will do its very best to make any invisible files visible and to move all these files to the trash. If this is not necessary, the files will be deleted but you'll still need to do a proper virus scan to see if the rest of your Mac has been infected. Hopefully not. Running BugScan does not make your Mac instantly 'safe'! Everyone needs to practice "safe computing" from now on! Remember to do a proper virus scan using Virex or Norton Anti Virus. The bad news is that if you've been infected for some time now, you'll probably be looking at a complete reformat and re-install. The best advice we can give you is to get on this ASAP. We do not provide free technical support for freeware (nor free technical support for virus-hunting, troubleshooting and maintenance). Good luck... Enhance your privacy by securely deleting data from your computer. Most people don't realize that emptying the trash does not erase the content of the file being deleted. Burn solves this problem by overwritting the file's data before deleting it. Burn features user specified erase patterns and number of passes. Burn 2.5 fixes a problem where erase free space would not erase more than 2 gigabytes of free space from drives that had more free space available. Burn 2.5 has also been thoroughly tested with Macintosh OS 8.5 and the new Mac OS HFS+ file system.

From: ton_brand@spidernet.nl Subject: CleanRecentItems 1.0 CleanRecentItems 1.0 What it is: AppleScript program that cleans up the Recent Items Folder Author: Ton Brand Mac OS: 8.5 or newer License: freeware CleanRecentItems takes care of an error in Mac OS 8.5 and newer that makes the Recent Items folder at the end of the path "Your Hard Disk:System folder:Preferences folder:Navigation Services folder:" being overloaded by a huge number of aliases in the course of time. This causes an unreasonable delay when calling up an Open or Save dialog supported by Navigation Services, because the system has to find the 10 most recent items out of several hundreds (or more) for display under the Recent popup menu. CleanRecentItems sets a default limit of 50 for the number of items stored in the Recent Items folder. When that number is exceeded, the whole contents of the folder is moved to the trash. You can modify the limit by opening the script of CleanRecentItems with Script Editor. It is suggested that you put this program in your Startup or Shutdown Items folder, which is in the System folder. -- Ton Brand Ton's Software¨ http://www.spidernet.nl/~ton_brand

From: pauls101@mindspring.com Subject: ClippingNamer 1.0.3 Finder clippings are a wonderful idea that most people don't use because they're such a pain to deal with. Ever tried to find the right clipping among a bunch of "Text Clipping 1", "Text Clipping 2", etc? It's not too bad with one clipping, but more than a couple leads to long sessions in the Finder assigning useful names, wasting the time you saved. ClippingNamer helps you manage clippings. Without leaving your current program, you can: * Automatically assign a new name based on the (text) clipping contents. * Automatically create a thumbnail image (icon) for picture clippings. * Popup a dialog that lets you see both ClippingNamer's and the Finder's suggested names, and use either one or a new name you type. You can set any of these modes (or none) as the default, and invoke any of the others with modifier keys (completely customizable). There are several other convenience options as well. UPDATE: Version 1.0.2 fixes a small bug that could cause the dialog to appear when dragging data within the same program (not to the Finder). Also, invented file names that contain return characters are now handled correctly, dragging stuff to the Trash works, and various cosmetic improvements to the dialogs are in place. ClippingNamer is $10 shareware. See for this and other shareware products. Contact the author at

In this way it should be simple for Internet Providers or institutions to customise CommFigure for their personal needs. Its companion application, Eudora Sound Mover, remains at version 1.0.1. New in this version: A user noted that the contextual menu for the Status column didn't reflect your preferred graphics: it was still the "new style" icons, albeit a little smaller. The problem was that the icons were stored in more than one location and more than one format-- "cicn" as well as "ics8/4/#" for those of you who know what resources are. This was fixed, and now when you click and hold in the Status column, you'll see the icons that you created! (Users who previously ran CEF to change their Eudora icons must run the new version to get this functionality.) You can build your own cool interface to frequently used items and share it with your friends, create a custom version to use as the main entry point for a commercial CD-ROM, or modify the basic interface to do whatever else you feel like doing. This package also includes my Transparentify PICTs utility, which can be used to remove the background from one or more images stored as PICT files, PICT resources or PICT data in the clipboard.

File Name: cyber-link-103.hqx (200 k)

From: rtz@netcom.com (Seth Snyder) Subject: Cyber Link 1.03 cpt Cyber Link is a utility that allows you to use the Finder and its icons to keep track of and organize all the places you visit while you are surfing the World Wide Web. Cyber Link files are like Macintosh Finder Aliases except that they point to WWW files and documents instead of Macintosh Files and documents. They are small files that contain the WWW URL or Universal Resource Locator. When you click on one in the finder the Cyber Link application sends a message to your Web Browser telling it to go to that location. Cyber Link files can be created easily. When you have found a location on the Web you would like to make a Cyber Link to use the New... menu command from Cyber Link's File menu to save the Cyber Link file to your hard disk. Cyber Link implements one of the coolest features in Microsoft Windows 95 that's not available on the Macintosh already, Shortcuts. You can also go to Cyber Link locations by using the Open... command in Cyber Links File menu or dropping a Cyber Link file icon on the Cyber Link applications icon in the finder. You can drop MacWeb URL files on the Cyber Link applications icon as well. Are you tired of typing "http://www." and ".com" every time you want to go to a location on the Web. The Go To Company Name... command in the Navigate menu may be just what you are looking for. If you type apple, sony, microsoft or rtz into the dialog box that appears your web browser will go the home pages for those company's. What is happening is Cyber Link is actually sending your web browser a message to go to Web URL http://www.rtz.com. Many companies arrange the names of their web sites in this same way so this menu command will work with all of them. The The Go To School Name... command will work the same way but will add a '.edu' to the end of the URL instead of a '.com'. If you are using Cyber Link with The Virtual Meeting and you have the conference floor you can control all the other conference attendees Web Browsers using Cyber Link. When you double click on a Cyber Link file Cyber Link will not only tell your Web Browser to go that location it will broadcast a message to all the other Web Browsers in the conference telling them to go to that location as well. For more information on The Virtual Meeting visit the RTZ Software home page. You can do this by selecting the find Out More about The Virtual Meeting" command in the navigation menu. Or selecting the Go To Company Name... and typing in rtz. Cyber Link will launch Netscape Navigator 1.1, MacWeb or Mosaic if it can find them on your Macintosh. If you have more than one you may want to edit Cyber Links STR# resource # 300 using ResEdit to change the priority in which Cyber Link searches for and launches these Applications. Date: Jun 16, 2001
From: "David C. Oshel" Subject: DaemonCron Lite 1.5 This small daemon posts messages to the screen, and will launch applications, documents, AppleScripts, sound files, etc., on any schedule you set. Possible uses include nagging yourself (via Notification Manager alerts or AppleScripts), launching Netscape at 3 A.M. to drive your cat nuts, whining soulfully when someone else is using your computer, turning your house lights on or off (requires wiring and additional stuff not provided), doing things at startup or shutdown, listening to your ex's dead dog bark every now and then, and so forth. Hey, it's daemonic! Use your imagination! DaemonCron is freeware for private use. Requires PowerPC and OS 7.5 or better (OS 9.1 recommended). Requires ResEdit or Resorcerer for configuration, and you should be comfortable with no-holds-barred system spelling bees when you configure launchfile names. ;-) NOTE: Support for 68k machines has been discontinued. Changes in this version: 1.5 - 6 June 2001 - Removed the seriously outdated PlaySound code because it was asynchronous and too buggy under OS 9. Sounds are now managed by launching sound files instead. Also, enhanced the random cron so that users may "tune" how often a random item (usually a sound file) will be launched. Fixed a bug that forced DaemonCron to play ALL the random crons, instead of selecting one at random.

From: Jon Gotow Subject: Default Folder 3.1.2 - Open/Save dialog enhancement This is the latest release of Default Folder. Default Folder 3.1.2 should replace any previous English-language versions of Default Folder in the archives. Default Folder is a Mac OS 9.1 and OS X Classic savvy control panel that enhances Open and Save dialog boxes to make it easier for you to manage files on your Macintosh. It provides many of the essential features of commercial utilities like Action Files, SuperBoomerang, and Directory Assistance, but without the infrequently used extras that take their toll in compatibility, memory, and CPU usage. In addition, Default Folder fully supports the Navigation Services Open and Save dialogs available in Mac OS 8.5 and higher, allowing you to access your recently used and favorite folders everywhere. What's New ---------- Default Folder 3.1.2 now allows users to change the Finder labels on files and folders from within Open and Save dialogs with Default Folder's Get Info command. The new release also includes compatibility fixes for users of Photoshop 6.0.1, AdobePS, and Extensions Strip. Full details are available at: More About Default Folder ------------------------- Default Folder's time-saving Open and Save dialog enhancements allow you to: - Set up a default folder for any or all applications. - Switch among recently used folders from a pop-up menu. - Easily navigate to your favorite folders. - Share common sets of recent and favorite folders between all Open and Save dialogs, including Navigation Services dialogs. - Click on a Finder window to list its contents in an Open or Save dialog. - See available disk space and switch between disks from a pop-up menu. - Open the folder shown in an Open or Save dialog in the Finder. - Create folders, get information (including changing name, type, and creator), and move items to the Trash from within file dialogs. - "Rebound" back to the last file you used. - Make "Replace" the default option instead of "Cancel" when saving a file with the same name as an existing file. Default Folder will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher, including Mac OS 9.1 and the Classic environment of OS X, and is $25 shareware. From: buckhilo@gte.net Subject: Delete Web Caches 2.0 This is the latest AppleScript version of Delete Web Caches -- in AppleScript text format. It will empty Netscape, Internet Explorer, Anarchie, Fetch and other caches from your hard disk. Compiled as a run-only application and used with OSA Menu (available elsewhere on Info-Mac), it's convenient to use after each session on the Internet. (Users might want to disable the "empty trash" feature until they've used it a couple of times and know it won't delete any unnecessary files.) I've uploaded this in text format so that users can study the code and add or delete items to configure it to their individual systems. It's freeware, but if you like it, feel free to drop me a line of e-mail. Enjoy... -- Buck Donham Hilo, Hawaii

Cache files from using web browsers can eat up a lot of hard drive free space in a very short time. This update adds several improvements: It adds a routine to delete AOL caches and it includes dialog boxes asking if you want to delete all web caches and then if you want to empty the trash. The file is in text so that you can change it until your heart's content. From: reuven_sherwin@scitex.com Subject: Deskpop 1.0.5 What does "Deskpop" do? Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and files currently on the Mac's desktop. This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is cluttered. Folders are displayed with the underline style. Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the bold bold+underline style. The Trash is displayed with the bold style. Selecting an item from the Deskpop menu will open it. Holding down the Control+Option keys will reveal it in the Finder. Holding down the Control+Shift keys will move the selected item to the Trash. If the selected item is a volume, Control+Shift+selecting will unmount it and eject it, if it¹s ejectable. These key combinations can be modified using the "Deskpop Settings" dialog, which is accessible from the Deskpop menu item with the same name. Requirements Requires Mac OS 7.1 or better, and scriptable Finder (which is integrated into Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe). For more information, please read the Release Notes enclosed. From: alm@montalcini.com Subject: Disk-o-Matic 1.0 - auto-launch items when their disk is inserte Program: Disk-o-Matic 1.0 Author: Alessandro Levi Montalcini Price: $10 (shareware) Register: http://order.kagi.com/?67 Download: http://www.montalcini.com Disk-o-Matic lets you automatically open an item when its disk is inserted or mounted. Here are a few examples of what you can do with it: - automatically display text or picture clippings with specific information about each of your removable disks. - create multimedia CD-ROMs that automatically start up their presentation when inserted. - open the document you're working on as soon as its disk is mounted. - have your Mac play a different sound for each of your Zip disks as soon as you slide one of them in the drive. - automatically run an antivirus or repair utility from an emergency disk. - run a complex AppleScript or macro when a backup disk is mounted. After a disk has been configured, the Disk-o-Matic application itself is no longer required to make the auto-launch feature work. You can take the modified disk to any other Mac without Disk-o-Matic and still have the chosen item automatically launched, as long as QuickTime is properly installed and configured (see below). Disk-o-Matic takes advantage of a new QuickTime feature that allows you to automatically launch a specified item as soon as a disk is mounted. This feature is called "Enable CD-ROM AutoPlay" and must be turned ON in the QuickTime control panel. Despite its name, it actually works with all kinds of disks, not just with CD-ROMs; you can set an auto-launching item for floppy disks, Zip disks, disk images, and any other removable or fixed disks except your startup disk. The startup disk can't use this feature because it is mounted before QuickTime is loaded, but then you can use the "Startup Items" folder instead.
