information on these programs, please visit one of the following web
pages:
http://www.kamprath.net/claireware/program_switcher.html
http://www.binarysoft.com/psmac/psmac.html
What is required?
Application Commander requires the following:
Apples Speech Recognition System v1.5 or later (comes with MacOS
8.5)
PowerPC processor
Program Switcher v4.4.0 or PowerSwitch v1.0.0 or later
MacOS 8.0 or later
How do I use it?
All you need to do is enable the Speech Recognition Manager in the Speech
control panel and then launch Application Commander. Application
Commander is a background only application, so there are no options or

Subject: Audiocorder 1.9.8
Audiocorder is a program which allows your Mac to act as volume operated
(VOX) audio recorder. It allows you to set the volume that the sound must
reach to begin recording, and the volume at which it should end recording.
It also allows you to set the trigger length for the start and stop values,
which helps you to eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the
recording process during a short pause (such as in normal speach). It may
also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. In addition, it can
play AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound programs.
Each sound file is stored in AIFF format, a Macintosh standard sound
format. The audio is sampled at 11, 22 or 44 kHz, with a sample size of 8
or 16 bits, either monophonic or stereo. The name of each file contains the
date and time (down to seconds) the recording began.
Audiocorder is used in a wide variety of applications, including digitizing
LPs and tapes, recording animals and other natural sounds, and automated
recording of radio transmissions.
Audiocorder is native for both 68K and PPC systems.

Audio Toolbox is an audio function generator for the Macintosh. Using no
additional hardware, you can produce sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth
waveforms of any frequency up to 22 kHz, as well as generate noise.
Audio Toolbox can be used to create all sorts of cool sound effects. You
have full control over the frequency, type and volume of each sound
produced.
You can generate up two ten different waveforms. Each waveform can be
routed to either the left or right channel, or to both. The amplitude of
each waveform may be adjusted, as well as the volume on each channel, which
is a mix of any waveforms routed to that channel.
In addition, there is a sweep generator. Super for producing "Whoop Whoop"
sounds, sirens, and more.
Requires a PPC Macintosh

Subject: Austrian Patch for Mac OS 8.5
So Apple forgot about Austria. They have localization codes for almost
any country, including Lapland and the Faeroe Islands, but not for the
country of Mozart, Beethoven, Sachertorte and The Sound of Music. ;-)
So far, this didn't matter all that much, but since OS 8.5 it does. You
see, OS 8.5 offers automatic compatibility for non-Western web pages, and
if you install this feature, you have a permanent keyboard menu in your
menu bar (as you did in OS 8 if you had more than one keyboard mapping
selected in the Keyboard control panel).
This means that Austrian users have to stare at the German flag all the
time while they're sitting at their computer. I decided to change that.
This little patch adds some Austrian data to your system file,
*replacing* the corresponding German ones. You'll notice the difference
in the control panels Date & Time, Keyboard and Numbers, plus, of course,
in the keyboard menu.
This patch only works with the US-English version of Mac OS 8.5. It does
not yet work with the German version. I will make a patch for the German
OS as it becomes available.

Subject: Beatnik Plug-in update--version 1.1.7
The Beatnik Plug-in is a driver which manages the playback of RMF and
other audio files within Web browsers. The greatest strengths of the
Beatnik Plug-in are its high fidelity and its potential for
interactivity. The sound quality is comparable to high-end PC wavetable
sound cards even though the processing is entirely
software-based. The potential for interactivity results from Beatnik's
support of a comprehensive set of JavaScript functions, which allow for
a richer and more personalized musical experience than other multimedia
delivery solutions. Beatnik allows a Web page to play music not only on
opening, but also on an event such as a "mouse click" or "mouse over."
These events can also trigger individual notes, sampled voices, or sound
effects; start or stop music; and change tempo, volume, pitch, or mix.
This is revolutionary in that it allows and even encourages direct
musical interactions with Web pages, instead of the current use of the
Internet as a playback-only system.

at the modification dates on the various info-mac mirror sites it
appeared you haven't been adding any programs since last August. If
people are still expecting updated ftp versions from info-mac, you
should know that the original posting to you will fail with any but the
simplest AIFF files. I corrected the version at my site
http://www.dakx.com/daxaif/daxaif.sea.hqx two days after the original
post when the first bug reports came in. (fyi, so far about 200 download
referrals from download.com and hitsquad.com)
The non-beta version is much much better (does direct CD import) and is
ready to release as soon as I get enough feedback to know there are no
major bugs. So it may not be worth posting this daxaif1.0b1 update to
your ftp sites, if download probabilities are small anyway.

Subject: Female Eudora PRO Snd Replacer v4
The Female "Email Sound Replacer v4" is a utility that automatically
replaces your boring stock sounds that play when your electronic messages
have been retrieved.
Version 4 contains an attractive, yet professional-sounding female voice
in stereo that says "Your New Email Is Waiting." It sounds great on any
Macintosh, and now you can hear it every time you have new email.
The Email Sound Replacer v4 is available for Claris Emailer, Eudora Lite
and Eudora PRO. All three versions are available in both stereo
16-bit/44kHz and 8-bit/22kHz samples. The 8-bit versions can be
downloaded here, but the 16-bit versions are available only at the
Clixsounds WWW site at:
http://www.edmondsun.com/clix/
The replacer for Claris Emailer and Eudora Lite are automatic sound
replacers that simply require your dragging and dropping your emailer
program on top of the updater. Please note: You may want to apply the
updater to a copy of your emailer program to make sure you wish to keep
it, as you cannot undo the replacement. Please refer to the enclosed
instructions for more detailed information and assistance.
The Eudora Pro version can be used with any other email program that
allows user selection of system 7 sounds as email notification sounds.
To use the sound, simply drag the file to your closed System Folder,
allowing it to be placed into the system file. Then select the sound
through your settings as your new email sound. For more information,
read the enclosed instructions.

Subject: FunKeys 1.5
FunKeys Version 1.5
Copyright (C) 1996-97 by Alex Rampell
FunKeys is an incredibly useful utility for the Macintosh. What FunKeys
allows you to do, basically, is "program" those function keys on the top of
your keyboard to do things. (The keys F1, F2, F3, F4, etc. They are only on
extended keyboards, which most Macs have). Most of us Mac users never even
use those things, as they are unsupported by many programs; FunKeys not only
gives them a use, but it also makes them really useful.
With FunKeys installed, you can program all 15 of them to either open
files/applications, execute AppleScripts, envoke macros (FKEYs), or even type
text.
For example, F1 can open America On-Line, F2 can open Microsoft Word, F3 can
turn off the sound, F4 can quit all open applications, and F5 can type
"Sincererely yours." It's entirely up to you.
In order to take advantage of the AppleScript functions, you will need to
have System 7.5 or later installed; otherwise, you can simply use FunKeys to
open your favorite applications and FKEYs at a blast. Hundreds of FKEYs are
freely available from sources such as America On-Line, Info-Mac, and other
Mac software sites. FKEYs have normally been installed to Command-Shift-x
keys.
FunKeys can also switch over to a certain application if it is already
running.
And, best of all, you can still use the Function Keys for their regular uses,
at the same time that FunKeys is running.
Version 1.5 adds many new features, such as the ability to open any kind of
file, not just applications. This includes Control Panels, Documents, and
Sounds---everything. It also allows different Function Keys to type text.

Intercom! is a "poor man's" voice intercom, usable by any machine that is
capable of running HyperCard 2.1. It offers "near real-time" text AND
voice communications, for those with older Macintoshes that don't have AV
capability. It allows people to send voice and/or text messages over an
Appletalk network, by recording a sound in HyperCard, saving it to a file,
and copying the file over the network. When it hits its destination, the
file is automatically opened, and the sound automatically played. This
creates a "near real-time" environment, that is quite acceptable for those
with lower-end Macintoshes.

Subject: iPod.iTunes 2.5
*** What does it do?
Unlike other iPod copy tools, iPod.iTunes provides real synchronization of
MP3/AAC/Audible tracks and even playlists entries from your iPod(s) to your
Mac(s).
iPod.iTunes saves your time because it automatically only copies those
tracks which are missing in the iTunes library, excluding duplicates. If you
wish, it provides also an option to show a list of tracks which are not in
iTunes and to copy only desired tracks from that list.
iPod.iTunes can be used to
- Keep music and playlists on different Macs up to date
- Do a full restore of tracks and playlists - i.e. after a hard disk failure
- Revert accident deletion of tracks and/or playlists, if these are still on
your iPod
- Clone an iPod
- Transfer an entire music library from one Mac to another via the iPod
Tracks and playlist entries can be synchronized together or separately. If
the tracks on the iPod already in the iTunes library and you only want the
playlists, you can use the playlist synchronization alone.
With every synchronization iPod.iTunes creates a date&time stamped iTunes
playlist containing the tracks which were copied. This gives the option to
easily add those tracks to existing playlists or to create new playlists
from the transferred tracks.

While Central America has seen more than its share of atrocities in recent

Like an angry Immigration officer, Jared's distinctive rendition grabs us,

Glengarry Glen Ross Sounds for Maelstrom 1.4.1
Compiled By Brad Shigenaka
Released September 1996
These are sounds extracted from the movie, Glengarry Glen Ross, and added
to the Maelstrom Sounds file. I compiled these sounds about a year ago
using cables led from my laserdisc player to my PowerBook 165. It didn't
occur to me until recently that there might be some other GGR fans out
there who might get a kick out of these sounds, so I apologize for the
delay in sending this out.
To use, back up your Maelstrom Sounds file and replace it with the one
included in this archive. Make sure to have the sound turned down low the
first time you use the file, unless those around you are used to incredible
levels of profanity spilling from your computer speakers.
Please check the Read Me file for further info.

This is a nice little program to help the multitudes out there who want to
make and distribute customized sounds for the game Marathon by Bungie
Software.
Basically, it lets you select a resource file, select the sounds from that
file that you want to distibute, and then make a little self-running
installer program which you can distribute which will install the sounds in
the Marathon Sounds file. No more trying to explain in 25 words or less
where to get or how to use ResEdit. The installer programs you make have
the ability to let the user select only certain sounds to be installed,
play the sounds before they get installed, and even play the original sound
from the Marathon Sounds file they will be patching.
This version will not allow you to create sound installers that don't
contain any sounds (that was appearing to be a problem).

pages, downloads them, parses them, and displays them in neat little tables
or easy viewing.
Charts currently supported:
Much Music Top 30 (http://www.muchmusic.com)
Rick Dee's Top 40 (http://www.rick.com)
Billboard Hot 50 (http://www.billboard.com)
All of the above charts were working with this version of
M.C. Downloader as of 05/13/99.
If you know of other music charts you would like to see included in future
versions of M.C. Downloader, feel free to send me their URLs to
rudis@mindless.com.

MPegger Drop Decoder comes in. Very simply, it will make your MP3s into
files that you can burn onto a CD, and listen to in any conventional CD

It should correctly recognize and decode all ISO-standard mpeg audio

Requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS 7.1 or higher. This program is Mac OS 8.0, 8.6, and
9.0 savvy!
What is Sound Shuffler?
Sound Shuffler is a control panel that randomizes the Mac system alert beep.
It also plays sounds in a 'Sounds' folder located in the System Folder. Just
drop sounds in this folder and Sound Shuffler immediately takes advantage of
them. Sound Shuffler plays all sounds asynchronously, which means they will
play without hogging the processor. This allows you to continue to work
while your sound is playing. Any sound can be stopped by pressing the 'Esc'
key.
Sound Shuffler even lets you play sounds at random times, using the random
sound slider in the control panel. You can set the length of the delay that
Sounds Shuffler awaits.

T-Cube v1.0
August 12, 1994
Designed by: Dan Venolia (dvenolia@apple.com) & Forrest Neiberg
Newton Port: Les Vogel
T-Cube is a new way of entering characters and text on Newton. It
complements handwriting recognition and the soft keyboard. Characters
correspond to "flick" gestures made into the T-Cube window.
After you have installed T-Cube, it is accessed by tapping its button in
the Note Pad status bar. T-Cube shows nine buttons arranged like a wheel.
Pressing and holding the pen down in any of the button shows a different
"pie menu" containing eight characters. You can "type" a character by
moving the pen in one of the eight directions, then lifting it.
This sounds like a tedious way to type, but as you start to memorize common
characters, such as space and "e", you can make the gesture directly,
without invoking the pie menu. Using the menu, an "e" is made by pressing
in the "north" button and dragging to the north-east. As a gesture, this
is a simple flick that starts in the north button and proceeds to the
north-east. You should have the most common characters memorized after
only an hour of use.
More information on the design of T-Cube can be found in:
Venolia, D. and Neiberg, F. "T-Cube: A Fast, Self-Disclosing Pen-Based
Alphabet," in Proceedings of CHI '94 (Boston, April 24-28, 1994), ACM
Press, pp. 265-270.

text accompanies it. T-Cube may not be distributed for profit without

The "Troubleshooting 101 Presentation" is a fully interactive application
designed to help you troubleshoot your Macintosh if it bombs or freezes
under System 6.0 through 7.6. It won't help you with a "Sad Mac" on startup
problem, won't bring back a trashed file, and it won't make your boss give

written with a Macintosh novice in mind but contains useful information for
all levels of Macintosh users.
There are two versions of this troubleshooting presentation, but both have
identical content. "Troubleshooting 101 IA.sit" (or "Troubleshooting 101
IA") is the "basic" presentation. "Troubleshooting 101 IA wM.sit" (or
"Troubleshooting 101 IA w MUSIC") contains background music which plays
throughout the presentation.
This is the "Troubleshooting 101 IA" version. It requires a Macintosh with
a 14" monitor and capable of displaying 256 colors or more.
The "Troubleshooting 101 Presentation" was created by the same author of
the "Troubleshooting 101 DA". It is not designed to replace the
"Troubleshooting 101 DA" but to compliment it.

Subject: WADenizer 2.0 MacDoom Utility
The WADenizer is a utility for converting Doom II WAD add-on files so they
work better with MacDoom. Specifically, it expands sprites like the PC
program DeUSF, fixes the demos so Doom will not crash, and allows map
conversion from Doom to Doom II. It can also extract parts of the files,
allowing you separate sound, map, and graphic portions.
Version 2.0 of the WADenizer adds support for more WADs, such as the Army of
Darkness conversion, and allows the copying of miscellaneous other WAD
information previous versions ignored.

Subject: WelcomeStartup Application, Utility and Source Code
WelcomeStartup issues an appropriate startup greeting depending on the
time of day.
The time periods are defined as:
Morning : 5 AM - Noon
MidDay : Noon - 8 PM
Evening : 8 PM - 5 AM
and can not be changed without recompilation.
(source code is included).
WelcomeStartup is eMailWare. All I want to know is where you are and
which site enticed
you to download WelcomeStartup. Any other feedback is also welcome -
Positive or negative.
Place WelcomeStartup in your Startup Items Folder in your System Folder
or doubleclick on
the application and sit back, it doesn't take long. It requires no
other user action.
WelcomeStartup comes with a bonus WelcomeStartupUtility Application
which can be used
to change the embedded greetings.

These are three sounds I recorded one night because I was bored with the sounds
I had before. They're not especially fantastic, but they're simple.
connect is me saying "connection established"
filedone is me saying "file transfer complete"
termbell is me popping my cheek. 8^)
enjoy!
