Jacob has come away from his home, because Esau is angry with him. He is afraid of his brother Esau. It is night, and Jacob has no place to sleep. He lies down on the ground and takes some of the stones for his pillow. And he has a dream. He thinks he sees a great ladder that reaches up to the sky. Angels are going up and down the ladder. And God speaks to Jacob out of the sky, and tells him that he will take care of him, and keep him safe wherever he goes. (45/399)
