No Small Talents

“Then the disciples took him by night, and let him
down by the wall in a basket.” (Acts 9:25)

After Saul’s conversion to the faith, his preaching
became so strong that several people determined that he
should die (Acts 9:23-24). Faithful brethren took it
upon themselves to help Paul escape over the city wall.
However, there is one person who played a great role in
his escape that rarely, if ever, gets any praise. Now
you are probably wondering who this could be.
Unfortunately for this person their name is not given.
In fact we don’t even know if this person is a man or a
woman. We do know the craft of this person though. He
or she was a basket maker. A basket maker you ask? Yes
a basket maker. The opening scripture tells us that
Paul was let down over the wall in a basket. Someone
had to make that basket. Whoever it was probably did
not make it in anticipation of it being used as a means
of escape. Even still that is what their basket was
used for.

Scripture is clear about the importance of every single
person in the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit tells us
through the apostle Paul that “…God set the members
every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him”
(1 Cor. 12:12-27). Jesus also taught that each person
is important and can do something to please the Father
(Matt. 25:15-30). If you think that you are too young
or too old, if you think you can’t speak well or write
comforting thoughts and if you think anything else that
keeps you from doing something for the Lord you would
be wrong. Every person, from the newly baptized to the
aged soldier in the kingdom can contribute to the cause
of the gospel. If you can make baskets and nothing else
than make baskets; it may turn out that you have a hand
in saving someone’s life.
