I have been experimenting with alert messages using different dialogs, and a question
has come up that seems to have no answer. When a OK button created in ResEdit is
pushed, how does the compiler know what to call it?

I have defined _btnOK = 1 but I could have used any name, and depending on which
alert I use that button returns 1,2,4 or 5 very consistently. Apparently each alert
dialog has a preference. One alert has a Back button and returns 3, another has a
Cancel button which returns 6. The OK button is in all four alerts and no alert has
more than two buttons. It seems that there should be some way of telling what number
the resource? assigns ? All OKs are the first button assigned and in two of them it
is the only button.

What am I missing? Thanks for any enlightenment.
