I just upgraded to System 9.0. This note is for all of you out there using FB2. It may apply to FB3 as well, but I haven't checked it yet. Previously, I was using 8.6, with SpeedDoubler 8. As Connectix haven't yet upgraded SpeedDoubler, I was running FB2 without it. Apart from minor irritations with System 9 (after completion of startup, it just sits there for about 30 seconds until it allows me to do anything - probably a network thing) it runs FB2 much slower. For example, a compilation of PACT took 2 minutes 57 under System 9, and 2 minutes 17 under 8.6 / SpeedDoubler. This is also true of the compiled code execution. I make this about 30% slower under System 9. So, if you're using FB2, I suggest that an 8.6 / SpeedDoubler 8 combination is a better bet, unless you've really GOT to have some of the features under System 9. No, I don't have shares in Connectix. I might observe that if there's a free upgrade to Conflict Catcher and TechTool already available, there ought to be one for SppedDoubler. And they'll probably charge for it, too. Phil.
