Interesting to ponder. I may be one of the younger ones then ... I am
not-quite 40 (later in the year) and have been programming since the
mid 70's. My first experience with programming was as an after school
activity. I discovered the computer lab could be utilized by anyone,
not just the students of particular classes. So I'd stay after school
and play. There was some cool Star Trek game that I played often. I
asked a lot of questions. Finally someone stuck a BASIC book in my hand
and told me to get lost. It was all downhill from there. Incidentally I
think I still have that book.

Since then I have, at various times, studied: BASIC, Pascal, C, C++,
Perl, and AppleScript. I've never made a time on any of them, and
they're all scrambled up in my brain, but I enjoy fiddling with them.
Perhaps some day I'll break out and get profitable.
