Ted, I feel your pain. The Mac I know was envisioned to be user-friendly in a trusted collaborative environment. When OS X arrived, we were promised complete accessibility to its FreeBSD underpinnings as well as given a suite of programming tools to utilize the Mac-specific API. The user had full control of his machine.

However with the release of recent versions of OS X, the programmer's access has steadily eroded as the Mac has been transformed into another iOS device. Today's sandboxing environment has destroyed the original freedom given Mac programmers. It would not surprise me that in the future Mac engineers cripple the programmer's ability to release software anywhere but through MAS.

Mac's 1984 Superbowl commercial is being fulfilled in itself.

It makes me sad.
