Ingredients:
1/4 Cup(s) Unsalted butter, softened
1/2 Cup(s) Packed brown sugar
1 Egg
1 Teaspoon(s) Vanilla
1 1/2 Cup(s) All-Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon(s) Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon(s) Unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 Teaspoon(s) Baking Powder
1/2 Teaspoon(s) Baking soda
1/4 Teaspoon(s) Ground nutmeg
1 Pinch(s) Ground cloves
1 Pinch(s) Salt
3/4 Cup(s) Dates, chopped
1 Cup(s) Applesauce

Directions:
In bowl, beat butter with sugar; beat in egg and vanilla. In separate
bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda,
nutmeg, cloves and salt; stir in dates. Fold flour mixture into butter
mixture alternately with applesauce [use unsweetened applesauce for
best flavour.], making 3 additions of dry and 2 of applesauce. Spread
in greased 8-inch square cake pan; Bake in 350F 180C oven for 30
minutes or until tester inserted into centre comes out clean. Let cool
completely on rack. Topping: In small bowl, whisk together icing sugar
and orange juice; drizzle over cake. Cut into bars. [Bars can be
covered and stored in refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen in
airtight container for up to 1 month.] Per bar: about 85 calories, 1 g
